Singapore first gay rally (It's good Singapore is not located in Russia)
Both events were held on Saturday, 16/05/09. Both were about the same issue: gay rights. But both did not lead to the same ending. The gay rally in Singapore (the first of its kind here) ended undisturbed whereas that in Russia (in Moscow, to be exact) very much disturbed.
To be fair, there is sufficient coverage even in the Russian newspaper for readers to understand how badly the protest ended there. Take a look at The Moscow Times, "Police Forcefully Break Up Gay Rights Protest".
Singapore can truly take pride that the rally was successful--without violence and without counter rally against the gay rally. And not to mention, the event secured a place in BBC News, "Singapore gays in first public rally". A little trivia: BBC reported that there were 2,500 people in the Singapore first gay rally while Straits Times (in "Pink event draws 1,000") quoted about 1,000 participants.
Well done, Singapore.
