"Chippendales is the reason why this year F1 is such a success!!"
Kate Perry: "I guess I developed over the summer".
And she said that while cupping her breasts. Sexy.
Okay. Who hasn't heard about Kate Perry's unforgettable performance in a supposedly kid-friendly version of "Hot N Cold" with Elmo of Sesame Street? (Check out the YouTube clip here!)
Goofy.
I prefer her original music video for the song "Hot N Cold", though. It's funny too! Especially this part about the 4 bride's maids. Beautiful, aren't they all? ;)

Futuristic Singapore - the Vision

The amazing photo is from Dvice, "Future Skylines: plans for amazing green skyscrapers in Singapore". So how do you prefer that vision compared to the (grim) one from STOMP, "This might be S'pore -- in 2095"?
Mas Selamat is immune to truth serums made in Malaysia??? More cili padis, please...
Mas Selamat Kastari. He has made to the news once again. This time, he's deported to Singapore on last Fri, Sept 24 after his capture in Johor, Malaysia on Apr 1 last year.
The main reason quoted by BERNAMA is that he is no longer a security threat to Malaysia. Yes, it takes about 1 year and 5 months for Malaysia to come to that conclusion? Whatever happens to the good old truth serums made in Malaysia with the main ingredient of cili padis???
Okay. I wish. I don't think Malaysia is subscribing to the use of truth serums. It's said that it's a form of torture.
But the question is if it does deliver the result (the truth in this case), shouldn't the use of truth serums be acceptable? Especially in the situation involving terrorists? Where the relatively innocents would-be victims can be spared from their tragic end?
In that period of Mas Selamat detained in Malaysia, bad things could have happened to either Singapore or Malaysia. Just because the truth is taking its time to surface. Without the truth serums.SINGAPORE Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) leader Mas Selamat Kastari was handed over to the Republic on Friday after it was decided that he was no longer a security threat to Malaysia.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the decision was made after discussions between Malaysia and Singapore, besides the security and intelligence agencies as well as the special task force of both countries confirming that Mas Selamat was no longer a threat.
'I was briefed that Mas Selamat was no longer a security threat to our country. He is from Singapore and I had said before that if a foreigner arrested is not a security threat to us, he should be sent back to his country of origin,' he told reporters after the Sembrong parliamentary constituency's Raya open house in Taman Sri Lambak on Saturday.
Asked if the deportation of the JI leader to Singapore was requested through Prime Ministe Najib Razak during his visit to Singapore recently, Hishammuddin said this was in fact made by Singapore some time ago.
'The request was made because Mas Selamat is a Singapore citizen, but as long as we were not satisfied that he was no longer a security threat, we had to take the necessary precautions.' he said.
'But from our own investigation, I felt that it was time for us to hand over Mas Selamat to the Singapore authority.'
From Straits Times, "Mas Selamat not a threat". INVESTIGATIONS have been launched into how terrorist leader Mas Selamat Kastari escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre to Malaysia, and once these are completed, the results will be shared with Singaporeans, Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng promised yesterday.
This may, however, take some time as a lot depends on whether the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) leader is cooperative or not, said Mr Wong, who is also Deputy Prime Minister.
The disclosures will also need to be verified, he added.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a constituency event, he said: 'I am sure that Singaporeans are very interested to know how he escaped. I can assure Singaporeans that when the information he gives can be verified, and we can conclusively say that that is how he escaped, and without compromising on operational security, I will let Singaporeans know more about how he escaped.'
The 49-year-old terrorist escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre on Feb 27, 2008, sparking a nationwide manhunt.
It emerged later that he swam across the Johor Strait into Malaysia, where he was on the run until caught by Malaysian police more than a year later, on April 1 last year, in Johor. The capture was the result of intelligence provided by Singapore.
From Straits Times, "Probe results will be shared".
130 strangers to be hugged per day for 77 days!!! | Yeh Jo-ling the next Hugging Saint???
Seriously is this 23-year-old Ms. Yeh Jo-ling going to be the next Hugging Saint (besides Mātā Amritanandamayī Devī, that is)???
Ms. Yeh Jo-ling has set a goal. Hug 10,000 people by the end of her island-traveling trip (from 26 September to 12 December). That is 130 strangers to be hugged per day. Achievable?
Let's revisit this article in mid December, shall we?A JOBLESS young woman from Taoyuan County began her short-term goal of traveling the island on September 23 and hugging 10,000 people by the end of her trip.
'I want to be a brave, confident and attractive woman,' 23-year-old Yeh Jo-ling told local media. It seems that Ms Yeh, who two months ago experienced the ending of both her job as tour guide at a ceramics factory and a two-year relationship, has found a new outlet for her overflowing optimism - giving extended hugs to strangers.
Back in July, Ms Yeh joined a hugging event in Chungli City created by a Taoyuan County man online that aimed to attract over 10,000 people. Although only 7,500 people showed up, Ms Yeh experienced, in 30-second hugs with strangers, a newfound passion that overtook her and lifted her spirits. It was then that she decided to go on a cross-island trip to spread the love by engaging in multiple hugs.
Ms Yeh's embracing schedule will kick off on September 26, when she leaves from Taipei. She plans to be back to Taoyuan by December 12. Every Sunday, Ms Yeh will choose a different train station and throw her arms around 910 passengers at each one - this will total her hugs to 10,010 by the end of her trip.
Ms Yeh said she will document each hug with a photo and give out handmade postcards marked by numbers from 1 to 10,000 as both souvenir and proof of her hugging tally. Her wish is that every person she embraces will go home and do the same to their loved one, making the world a better place.
'I have confidence I will succeed,' said Ms Yeh, adding that her other goals include losing some weight and finding a new boyfriend.

A movie review: "Devil" or "The Night Chronicles: Devil"
M. Night Shyamalan is the person responsible for this supernatural thriller, "Devil" or also known as "The Night Chronicles: Devil").
The premise is promising: 5 strangers are stuck in an elevator. All five are, relatively speaking, bad guys with one of them is literally the Devil in disguise.
Thus the taglines for this movie: "FIVE STRANGERS TRAPPED. ONE OF THEM IS NOT WHAT THEY SEEM".
Allow me to digress a bit. I'm kind of annoyed reading the second sentence. ONE OF THEM IS NOT WHAT THEY SEEM. Why the use of 'THEY'? Shouldn't it be read as "One of them is not what he/she seems"?!
Anyway, I have a high expectation of the show. I expected it to be like Phone Booth where the whole drama is contained within a single space.
In that sense, I'm not disappointed. This "Devil" movie has most of the thrilling parts happen in the elevator. (I can recall of two examples of the other thrilling parts which do not happen in the elevator. One is when the building engineer run towards the edge of the building to catch his flown cap and at the last minute he realises he can fall to his death because of his stupid sense of attachment to the lousy cap. Another is when the security guard is showing to almost step on the floor where the exposed cable poses a electrocution hazard.)
I too like the part when the light in the elevator is off. The whole screen is truly shown in the dark with only voices (panic ones!) are heard. Then the light is on. And the horror is showcased to the gasping audience. As simple as that. Yet it does work!
I try to put myself on the shoes of those trapped in the elevator. They do not have the luxury of knowing that there's the Devil among them (they are not the audience, silly!).
So of course the suspicion is inevitably arising with those 'logical' suspects in mind. First, the temp security guard--strong & able, moreover with a violent past. Second, the former mechanic because he was in the US military during the War in Afghanistan. Capable of killing, are they not?
The elderly woman logically can be ruled out. She looks so frail!
And so is the young woman as there are simply no muscles at all in those dainty arms!
The mattress salesman is annoying. He talks too much, therefore he can't be a killer as any killer should be watching more of his/her preys than talking them to death.
Okay, the keyword is 'logic'.
Knowing M. Night Shyamalan (I'm crazy about his "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable"), I know there must some twist also to this "Devil".
As a result, I was entertaining this thought that the first killed person is the Devil. If he/she is indeed of the supernatural origin, the death as we know it is not applicable to him/her. And if he/she is killed, he/she will be out of suspicion.
I also consider the most unlikely person--logically speaking, not capable of killing--among the five to be the Devil.
What I cannot fathom prior to watching the show is the why. Why there must be these specific people trapped in the elevator & subject themselves to the scarring experience? Is there any rationale for that? The film satisfactorily answers that, mind you.
Do not let me spoil it by explaining further.

Keep older workers employed, or else...
From Asiaone, "RWS casino tells gambler: Give back your winnings", this statement struck me the most. One Mr. Teo, 67 years old, who is a retired cabby have this to say: "I'm not addicted to gambling, I went to the casino to while away my time."
The issue on how to keep him to be occupied, and he choose gambling.
If only he is still actively working...
Thus I very much agree to MOM's proposed re-employment legislation that will make it compulsory for employers to offer older workers at least one-year contract extensions.
Referring to REACH e-Consultation paper, "Public Consultation on Proposed Re-employment Legislation", it is mentioned that the period of public consultation is from 16 September 2010 to 29 September 2010. All feedback received through the consultation exercise will be reviewed by the Ministry of Manpower and, if accepted, will be incorporated into the formulation of the re-employment legislation.
So please give a supporting feedback for this proposal.
We need older people to stay active. And not in a sense of actively gambling...
Submit your feedback (before 29 Sept!!) through this email address: mom_ow@mom.gov.sg or fax to 65340559 or post it to Ministry of Manpower, Workplace Policy and Strategy Division, #06-01, 18 Havelock Road, Singapore 059764.SINGAPORE employers will be required to offer older worker re-employment contracts of up to a year once they hit the minimum statutory or contractual retirement age from 2012.
This is provided in the proposed re-employment legislation, which is open for public feedback till Sept 29.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Thursday released a consultation paper on the conditions and obligations for re-hiring older employees so that they can work longer.
In view of the nation's ageing population and workforce, the legislation will enable companies to tap on the skills and experience of older employees.
The re-employment legislation aims to 'strike a balance between providing older employees with the opportunity to work longer' as well as keep companies 'competitive by providing flexibility in the implementation of re-employment', said MOM in a statement.
Under the proposals, employees who satisfy the re-employment criteria of being medically fit to continue working and having satisfactory or better work performances must be offered re-employment contracts by the same employer when they reach retirement age.
Re-employment contracts must be for at least a year.
Flexibility in re-employment is another key area provided in the proposed legislation. This will help companies remain competitive. Employers and employees have the flexibility to renegotiate job scope, wages and benefits.
The proposal also makes it compulsory for employers to pay retiring workers an Employment Assistant Payment (EAP) if they are unable to let them continue working in the company.
MOM's proposed legislation was released as a follow up to the Tripartite Guidelines on Re-employment of Older Employees in March.
The key features of the proposed re-employment legislation can be viewed on the REACH website.

Canton-I $1 for a whole soya-sauce chicken
Believe it or not! For kiasus out there, rejoice!!This sounds too good to be true but it's true - Canton-I is offering its delicious soya-sauce chicken for only $1 at dinner time.
The whole 1kg chicken, which normally costs $24, is being offered at a give-away price to celebrate its first anniversary.
You don't need to have a minimum order of food in order to enjoy the whole chicken. But you have to settle your little bill by DBS/POSB cards, which most of us have.
Also, you must come in a group of at least three people.
Partially quoted from Soshiok.com, "Only $1 for a whole soya-sauce chicken at Canton-I".
The formidable CITE (Community of Information Technology Experts) enters the Net!
Please, oh please...do not make this "informal" group name itself such as the failed Association of Bloggers (Singapore).
Oh wait a minute, this new group has name itself as the Community of Information Technology Experts (CITE). Fanciful...but quite a catchy name, I must say.
You can learn more about CITE here. Partially quoted:The Community of Information Technology Experts (CITE) is a non-profit volunteer group that aims to inform Singapore online users of their rights and responsibilities with the larger goal of encouraging greater use of the Internet. CITE is launched on 22 September 2010.
Some of the formidable members of the group:The members in CITE are well known figures in the technology and law of the online world. Besides corporate lawyers, the members also include academics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore Management University (SMU).
They include former Nominated Member of Parliament Mr Siew Kum Hong, a corporate counsel specialising in Internet and technology law; Mr Wong Siew Hong, Director of Infinitus Law, with extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation; technology law and intellectual property law expert, Visiting Professor Lim Yee Fen from the Faculty of Law, NUS; and Mr Bryan Tan, Director of Keystone Corporation, one of the leading individuals in IT and telecoms law, who had handled the world's first mass e-mail defamation case and registrar-level domain name dispute.
And here are the press release:An informal group has been formed in Singapore to help netizens understand their rights and responsibilities on the Internet.
The purpose is to get people to think before shooting off that email, tweet, blog or Facebook post.
It is easy to have a voice on the Internet today. With social networking sites and blogs, one can broadcast worldwide what one thinks in a few seconds.
But a seemingly harmless rant could end up with serious consequences.
Just this year, a parent started a blog as a platform for others to discuss school matters. But the school viewed the comments contributed as defamatory.
In another case, a food blogger, Kaelyn Ong, was threatened with legal action in October last year for an unflattering review of a cake shop in Joo Chiat.
So a group of 20 IT and cyber law professionals has decided to form the Community of Information Technology Experts (CITE).
Professor Ang Peng Hwa, director, Singapore Internet Research Centre, Nanyang Technological University, said: "We are forming this group to give information to individuals and small companies about the rights that they have on cyberspace - that means what they can do and what they cannot do on the Internet."
Though the group does not give legal advice, it provides basic information on Singapore Internet law such as copyright, trademark issues and defamation.
Anyone who has doubts on what he or she may post on the Internet could send queries to the CITE website.
Bryan Ghows, director, TSMP Law Corporation, said: "We simply like to help the community, the public, at least understand what rules sort of govern the Internet usage in Singapore because a lot of the laws you read are very US-specific, which are not applicable in Singapore.
"So setting out at least the foundation for what applies in Singapore is pretty important to us."
CITE members also include academics from the National University of Singapore and the Singapore Management University.
From Channel NewsAsia, "Group formed to help netizens understand their rights on Internet".
Mapletree Logistics Trust, Mapletree Industrial Trust...
No, don't be confused with the incoming IPO of Mapletree Industrial Trust.
I don't know about you, but the branding of these 2 counters is for sure confusing. One is Mapletree LOGISTICS Trust and another is Mapletree INDUSTRIAL Trust. Mapletree Logistics Trust has said it is raising S$300 million in capital through the issue of new shares to fuel its growth plans.
The fund raising will comprise a combination of private placement and preferential offering of more than 370 million new units.
The Trust said it hopes to raise around S$170 million from the private placement of new units offered at a price range of between 82 and 84 cents per unit.
It also hopes to raise proceeds in excess of S$130 million through the preferential offering of new units priced at between 81 and 83 cents per unit.
From the S$300 million in proceeds raised, the Trust will use S$120 million to fund four previously-announced acquisitions.
These include Mapletree Logistics Centre in Vietnam, the Natural Cool Lifestyle Hub and A-W Centre in Singapore as well as the Multi-Q Centre in South Korea.
A further S$105 million will be used to fund the purchase price and the acquisition-related costs of three potential Singapore acquisitions and one Japanese acquisition for which Mapletree is currently in advance negotiations.
Another S$70 million will be deployed to partially fund the completion of three Japanese acquisitions and other new potential acquisitions in the pipeline.
The balance will be used to pay for estimated fees and expenses as well as general working capital.

Heroes of Might and Magic Online - Asia only
This pop-up advertisement of the online game, "Heroes of Might and Magic" is for sure interesting. I like the way how it allows enough information on the towns to choose--there are 8 of them. The Necropolis is my favorite (but no, I'm not that eager to play the game. At least, not yet.)
Inferno castles are always surrounded by giant pits of lava and scorch the earth around them. Its armies consist of demonic creatures, ranging from lowly imps to almighty demons. The nation of Eeofol is of the Inferno faction.
The Dungeon houses monsters that live in underground caverns. The kingdom of Nighon, the most powerful kingdom in the Dungeon faction, commands mighty Black Dragons to defend its subterranean caverns.
The Stronghold is populated with brutish, tribal creatures associated with barbarism. Their sizes range from tiny Goblins to lumbering Giants, and their ferocity is known across Erathia. Stronghold units are at home in the deserts and wastes. The kingdom of Krewlod is of the Stronghold faction.
The Rampart army is composed mainly of Sylvan creatures from the depths of the Tularean Forest. Accordingly, their home is in the grasslands and forests. The kingdom of AvLee is of the Rampart faction.
The Tower faction is made up of human separatists who believe study of the arcane will lead to the greatest power, and their armies are composed of wizards, magical beings, and animated golems. Tower creatures are at home in Arctic environments. The kingdom of Bracada is of the Tower faction.
The Castle army is made up predominantly of humans who reject the path to inner enlightenment chosen by their brothers from the Tower. Instead, they place their faith in the celestial beings of Erathia and are rewarded for their conviction with the aid of Angels. The kingdom of Erathia is of the Castle faction.
The Necropolis is a ghost town of the undead and its armies are composed of lich, zombie, wraith, and vampire. The kingdom of Deyja is of the necropolis faction.
The Fortress is built in marshland and is home to numerous reptilian creatures. While not as hardy as their cousins from Stronghold, Fortress creatures make up for the lack of brute strength with their unique abilities. The kingdom of Tatalia is of the fortress faction.
The I Inside
Seriously it could have been a recommended show if only that damn medic is not featured. I'm referring to the masked medic who is trying to kill the main character, Simon Cable. He is shown to attempt to do it twice: when Cable is tied up to the MRI scanner & when the future Cable is in the past witnessing his past self apparently pushes his elder brother fall through their house skylight.
But if you like the show that makes you think (Memento comes to mind), this show may not be somewhat disappointed. Check out the trailer here & decide on your own.
PS. By the way, don't you think the designs of the movie are artistic? I love the second poster. The efficient use of the jigsaw puzzle and the missing piece is shown lying nearby. Waiting to be discover.

of Old people engaging in a passionate PDA
STOMPer Werdna is such an ageist. Yes, I'm referring to his/her post, "Don't older people know better? Uncle and auntie kiss openly on bus"."I saw this old couple kissing on Bus service 166.

Dude/dudette, public display of affection (PDA) is not just limited to youngsters, you know?!

Malaysia "boleh": Believe it or not - Tomoi fighters with trunks below their knees???

Tomoi as how we know it may soon be a thing of the past if the jokers in Kelantan manage to spread their misguided 'guidelines' on the attire code of the Tomoi boxers to the rest of Malaysia.
Wake up, why don't you? Ever try to execute Tomoi kick while wearing trunks that reach below the knees?!?!
Check out the YouTube clip, "Wadi (kelantan) vs Benny Ritter (switzerland)", and try to visualise their battle with the fighters wearing such attire. What a laugh.TRADITIONAL boxers in a Malaysian state ruled by a conservative Islamic party have been ordered to ditch their skimpy shorts and good-luck talismans, in accordance with religious rules.
The Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party, which governs the northern state of Kelantan, said that 'Tomoi' boxers - a form of unarmed martial art similar to the popular 'Muay Thai' boxing in Thailand - will be told to cover up.
'We want them to follow Islamic rules. We want to promote good values and Islam will be used as the basis for these guidelines,' said Abdul Fattah Mahmood, the state minister in charge of sports.
'Their boxing trunks were too short and they didn't know that when they were fighting, their underwear could be seen. Many women in the audience felt very embarrassed and complained to us later,' he told AFP.
Women in Kelantan have previously been targeted with various campaigns discouraging them from wearing sexy outfits, lipstick or high heels, but it is the first time that men have been told to cover up.
Under the Kelantan guidelines, boxers will be asked to wear trunks that reach below the knees, and must not carry any talismans, despite the good-luck charms' popularity. 'We want them to cover their 'aurat',' Abdul Fattah said, referring to Islamic rules which in Malaysia require men to cover the area between their navel and knees. Women must cover their entire body except the face and hands.

Hardcore Pokemon (X-treme!): 15 years later...

Yeah. Right. That means the main character of Pokemon series, Ash Ketchum will be a 25-year-old pokemon-battle-weary, uhm, (cartoon) character. I love how fierce Pikachu is going to be portrayed. He must be fed up as well with the draggy series.

Michelle Yeoh's brother, Bobby Yeoh Lam Jit & 'starlet' Joey Choi Wai-man - A real scandal??
Referring to Asiaone, "Michelle Yeoh's brother photographed in intimate acts" & The Daily Chilli, "Busty starlet says Yeoh wants it everyday", I can't help thinking: "Is this case for REAL???"
Both articles mention how the brother of Michelle Yeoh, Bobby Yeoh Lam Jit was allegedly photographed engaging in intimate acts with a starlet in a park in Hong Kong.
The 'starlet' in the story is reported to be Joey Choi Wai-man. And yet, she is 39 years old?!?!
I don't think such a mature age is still within the boundary of she being considered a 'starlet'.
Of course on the other hand, the wrong use of the word 'starlet' does not mean that the case is not real, either. Oh well...

Mapletree Industrial Trust IPO
Considering...considering...
But more homework is needed, for sure. Mapletree Industrial Trust IPO. No IPO price so far, though.TEMASEK-backed Mapletree Industrial is looking to raise about $800 million in a Singapore listing, joining a rush of new listings before the year end.
Mapletree Investments, a real estate firm wholly owned by Singapore Temasek, intends to sell between 62.7 per cent and 69 per cent of the property trust, and offer investors a distribution yield of as high as 8 per cent, sources with knowledge of the deal told Reuters.
It is offering 917.5 million units with an option to sell another 91.75 million units if investor demand is strong, the sources said.
The meetings with investors will begin on Sept 15, roadshows on Sept 30 and pricing for the deal is expected on Oct 12, one of the sources said. Listing is seen on Oct 21. Citigroup, DBS, Goldman Sachs and Standard Chartered are bookrunners for the IPO.
The IPO comes at a time when Singapore sovereign fund GIC's logistics unit GLP is launching a $3 billion IPO which could potentially be the biggest in Singapore.
Other large IPOs in the region include American International Group's plan to list its Asian life insurance business AIA in a deal that could raise as much as $15 billion.
The listing of Mapletree Industrial Trust, which will buy six properties from its parent, is aimed at tapping investor demand for high yields at a time of low interest rates.
From Straits Times, "Mapletree plans $800m IPO".Singapore's Mapletree Industrial Trust is looking to raise about 800 million Singapore dollars (US$598.1 million) through an initial public offering in Singapore, a person familiar with the transaction said Thursday.
The real-estate investment trust is a unit of Mapletree Investments, which is owned by Singapore's state-run investment company Temasek Holdings Pte. Ltd. It is offering 1.01 billion units, or as much as 69% of its market capitalization, in the IPO, which includes an overallotment option of 91.8 million units, the person said.
The Mapletree offer comes soon after another person familiar with the matter said last week that Singapore's other sovereign wealth fund, Government of Singapore Investment Corp., also plans to list its logistics real-estate unit, Global Logistic Properties. Global Logistic plans to raise as much as US$3 billion from its IPO and is expected to debut on the Singapore exchange Oct. 15, that person said.
Investor presentations for the Mapletree Industrial Trust issue will start Sept. 30, with pricing expected Oct. 12. The trust is expected to list Oct. 21, the person said. The proceeds of the offer will be used to purchase six properties in Singapore and to repay debt.
Mapletree Investments said in June it plans to launch two REITS: a commercial property trust and an industrial property trust.
Mapletree Industrial's chief executive, Phua Kok Kim, had said in June that the company was looking to raise S$1 billion through the IPO, but that value was dependent on market conditions.
Mapletree Investments owns and manages about S$13 billion of real-estate assets globally. Mapletree Industrial Trust's assets, located throughout Asia, are currently worth about S$1.73 billion.
Citigroup, DBS, Goldman Sachs and Standard Chartered are book runners for the deal.
From Wall Street Journal, "Mapletree Unit Plans US$598 Million IPO".
Update on 11/10: IPO of Mapletree Industrial Trust is reported to be priced at 93 cents a share.MAPLETREE Industrial Trust, a property trust linked to Temasek Holdings, has reportedly priced its initial public offering (IPO) at 93 cents a share and could now raise as much as $940 million.
This is the top end of its earlier indicative range of 88 cents to 93 cents a unit, according to various media reports on Monday, all citing unnamed sources.
The trust owns dozens of factories, business parks and industrial buildings, mainly in Singapore.
Mapletree Industrial's distribution yield, a closely-watched measure of return on investment, is projected to be 7.6 per cent from the Oct 21 listing date to March 31, 2011, based on the 93 cents offer price.
Meanwhile, Reuters, citing sources, said that Mapletree Industrial is likely to update its draft prospectus and launch the retail portion of the IPO on Tuesday.
Mapletree Industrial is selling 594.9 million units with an option to increase the offer by another 91.75 million units, according to the draft prospectus.
From Straits Times, "Mapletree to raise $940m".

Chivalry is not dead in Singapore--but is Gratitude?
"Thank you, kind stranger, you have renewed my faith in Singaporean men.
"At least, until the next time a guy pushes me on the train to get a seat."
The lady stomper in "Chivalry not dead in S'pore: Man stops to help female motorcyclist stranded in rain" may just be the very reason why it's often a turn off to date a Singaporean woman.
With her last line above (in red & bold) she'd love to think herself to be witty. She's wrong. It just shows how fault-finding she can be. Puh-leaze, the article is all about the rare--but existent!--act of chivalry she encountered. And while she sufficiently expressed her gratitude, why oh why did she have to end the article with such a killing line?
Do I make a harsh over-generalization here? For goodness' sake, I hope I do.
Alert: Calling on O blood donors!! Critical level identified. Alert!!
What I don't get it is from the screenshot above from Singapore Blood Stocks Indicator, it's shown that Group O stock is at Critical--the level shows 314--and yet the Group AB stock is at "Healthy" despite the level shows 118?!
Perhaps some typo error? So if you're of AB blood type, do start donate! The "Healthy" might mean "Extremely Critical".
But if you're of O blood type, no doubt of the worrying critical level. Don't think. Just do it--donate!
The Singapore Red Cross and the Bloodbank@HSA are calling on O blood donors to come forward to make a blood donation within the next couple of days.
As of Wednesday, September 15, the national blood stock supply for O blood is enough for less than three days.
The aim is to bring the current bloodstock level to at least six days' supply to ensure that daily transfusion needs and bleeding emergencies are met.
This means the support of at least 400 donors is required.
All healthy individuals between 16 and 60 years, weighing at least 45 kilograms, are urged to come forward to help.
Donors who have not made a donation in the past 12 weeks are encouraged to donate as well.
The public can donate blood at the Bloodbank@HSA located at 11 Outram Road, opposite Outram Park MRT Station.
The opening hours are as follows:
Tuesdays to Thursdays - 9am to 6.30pm
Fridays - 9am to 8pm
Saturdays - 9am to 4.30pm
Sundays - 9am to 2pm
Closed on Mondays and public holidays

Kengho Yap aka UncleYap: Isolation is not an issue.

Such a bravado. From such a nobody. (He's quite prolific, though, as a blogger.)
And yes, this is the same person to which the 2nd word 'stupid' in "Mas Selamat Kastari is not stupid, stupid!" refers to.For someone who continues to advocate the importance of working for as long as a person can, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said the worst punishment one can give a person is the isolation ward. The person, he said, would get hallucinations.
Sharing anecdotes about his personal life and religious beliefs in an interview with the New York Times and the International Herald Tribune, Mr Lee said that without interaction with people, a person is isolated.
Mr Lee keeps his mind alive with constant stimulus as he keeps himself up to date. For example, he said, he goes to China once a year at least to meet Chinese leaders.
And he will be off to Moscow, Kiev and Paris on 15 September. Mr Lee said: "(In) Paris, I am on the TOTAL Advisory Board together with Joe Nye and a few others. They want a presentation on China's strengths and weaknesses.
"It's not just my impressionistic view of China but one that has to be backed by facts and figures. So my team works out the facts and figures, and I check to see if they tally with my impressions. But it's a constant stimulus to keep alive and up-to-date. If I stop it, it's downhill."
The Minister Mentor also stresses the need to keep fit and exercise. For himself, he cycles and swims every day.
From Channel NewsAsia, "Worst punishment for a person is to be put in isolation ward: MM Lee".
PS. If you're interested, there are indeed many causes of hallucinations. Reading a ridiculous post of UncleYap is definitely one of them!

Executioner of Resident Evil Afterlife vs Pyramid Head of Silent Hill
Executioner
Pyramid HeadI've got what I wanted: Resident Evil Afterlife - a 2D version! Screw 3D!
However, the show still sucks though. And I couldn't help my mind wondering what happened if Executioner (the hooded giant man wielding a giant axe in the movie, Resident Evil Afterlife) were to fight Pyramid Head (another giant man with a pyramid as his head--don't ask--wielding a giant sword featured in the movie, Silent Hill).
Tough. Who do you think would win & why?

googlezz - the GREEDIEST ping cheat?!?!

Introducing googlezz the latest ping.sg cheat...and also the GREEDIEST!!
Just take a look at the screenshot above taken about 3 minutes ago. In the "most popular in the last 24 hours", we can see 5 articles belong to this greediest cheat! The last 2 screenshots are the ones which prove beyond doubt how this stoopid cheat committed the act: 4 pongs and yet only 3 reads?! Oh please...
...and wanna be that the other 3 posts are ponged by the similar 4 clones/clowns? Hur hur.
It's Aidilfitri, Mr. Tan. Not Adilfitria!!
I winced at this particular title of Mr. Tan Kin Lian's blog post, "Selamat Hari Raya Adilfitria". Please lah, Mr. Tan! It should be Eid-ul-Fitr or in Singapore's context (or Malaysia's & Brunei's), it should be Aidilfitri.
Pardon for me being too picky, but I strongly believe there must no be a room for a typo for the naming of any religious event of any religion.
Wishing Muslims around the world a solemnful celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr. May you & your loved ones be blessed with peace and always!
Psychoville - Season 2 (next appointment to Ravenhill)
A pleasant (at least for me!) follow-up for this post, "Psychoville & a peep at Paradise Syndrome": The full second series of Psychoville is set to be in 2011. Yay! And if you can't wait till then, there will be a one-hour Halloween special of Psychoville this year.
Top 10 reasons to date an Engineer
The following "Top 10 reasons to date an Engineer" is quoted from this article, "Why a Girl Should Marry an Engineer". It's enlightening, I tell you. Check out the reasons--and if you've not dated an Engineer, please start doing so:10. The world does revolve around us... We chose the coordinate system.
9. No "couple" enjoys a better "moment".
8. We know how to handle stress and strain in a relationship.
7. We have significant figures.
6. We have taken a course on the motion of rigid bodies.
5. Projectile motion... Need we say more?
4. Engineers do it to specification.
3. According to Newton, if two bodies interact, their forces are equal and opposite.
2. We know it's not the length of the vector that counts, but how you apply the force.
1. We know the right hand rule.
I too like the way the author compared the superior benefits of marrying an Engineer to a Doctor, a Lawyer, a Salesman, a Teacher, or Hazardous Professions, i.e. Firefighter, Construction Worker, etc. Heh. Compelling arguments!!
IPO: Global Logistic Properties (GLP)
No pricing yet for this gigantic IPO of Global Logistics Properties (GLP). The global roadshow will begin only on Sept 23 & pricing is expected on Oct 8. Looking forward for more details on this IPO.
It's going to be the largest IPO in Singapore & it's from the Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC). But other than these 2 appealing facts, I would be better advised by studying the prospectus. AN INITIAL public offering (IPO) which could be Singapore's largest is about to get under way, and retail investors will have a slice of the action.
The Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC) is planning to list its logistics unit here next month and has started talks with major investors.
Bankers say the IPO of Global Logistics Properties (GLP) is set to raise more than US$3 billion (S$4 billion), and could even top SingTel's $4 billion-plus listing in 1993.
GLP owns warehouses in China and Japan.
Pre-marketing efforts to institutional investors started in Singapore and Hong Kong yesterday, though the global roadshow will begin only on Sept 23.
GIC declined to comment on Thursday.
From Straits Times, "GIC plans record listing".Sovereign wealth fund Government of Singapore Investment Corp (GIC) is expected to list its logistics unit on the Singapore Exchange on October 15.
The initial public offering (IPO) of Global Logistic Properties (GLP) aims to raise up to US$3 billion in what could be Singapore's biggest IPO.
If successful, the IPO would be bigger than SingTel's S$4 billion (US$2.9 billion) listing in 1993, and dwarf CapitaMalls Asia's US$2.02 billion IPO launched last year.
GLP owns industrial and logistic properties in China and Japan. It is one of Asia's biggest operator of logistics parks, managing 53 logistics parks in 18 major cities.
Investor roadshows for the IPO will begin on September 23, and pricing is expected on October 8.
The IPO is expected to be split between a 95 per cent global tranche and a 5 per cent Singapore tranche.
Sources said the proceeds of the IPO will be used to support growth plans in China and Japan, as well as to pay down existing loans and for general working capital.
Citigroup and JPMorgan are global coordinators and book runners for the IPO, while DBS, UBS and China International Capital Corp are book runners.
GLP's IPO will be among a number of other large Singapore IPOs that are expected to hit the market in coming months, including a S$1 billion IPO planned by Mapletree Industrial Real Estate Investment Trust and a possible S$700 million IPO by China-based New Century Shipbuilding.
From Channel NewsAsia, "GIC's logistics unit to raise up to US$3b in IPO".
A thumbs down to NTU: university's written approval is also needed for blogs contain politics and religion
I fully agree with the Broadcasting Act which requires a registration for websites deemed by the authorities to be propagating political or religious issues relating to Singapore. This is Law, afterall, and one needs to respect it.
But to expect a written approval from a university (point a thumbs down in dismay to NTU) is extremely ridiculous!!
Firstly NTU is not a government! Their 'guidelines' are not Law. They should be just seen as guidelines. And nothing more.
Secondly I can imagine those naive bloggers (who sadly are also NTU students) trying to seek for university's written approval. Want to bet the process will take 'some time'? It's going to be troublesome & in the end, many will just end up giving up their idea of blogging.
In any case, kudos for NUS & SMU for not following the shameful step of NTU.It is an annual reminder, according to Nanyang Technological University but its recent circular on blogging has raised eyebrows on campus.
Among its several do's and don'ts for Internet postings, the Nanyang Technological University Students' Affairs Office has set out this rule: Those who create webpages or blogs containing information regarding politics and religion must acquire proper licences from the Media Development Authority and the university's written approval.
The email was sent on Tuesday to all students with the subject title, Message on Exercising Freedom of Expression Responsibly, in block letters.
When asked what prompted the email and when the circular was first published, NTU Dean of Students Lok Tat Seng said, "Every year, we disseminate information on the do's and don'ts of Internet usage as a regular reminder to our students. The new academic year has just started, hence it's an appropriate time to disseminate the guidelines. These guidelines are posted on NTU's website for their reference, too."
NTU did not respond, however, to MediaCorp's queries on why students needed the university's written approval to create webpages or blogs touching on politics and religion.
Nor did it reply to the question on how many students have obtained written approval thus far.
Under the Broadcasting Act, registration is required for websites deemed by the authorities to be propagating political or religious issues relating to Singapore.
The last time any website was required to register as a political site, though, was in 2001.
The owner of the site, Sintercom, shut it down in protest.
Some NTU students are now questioning the university's approach.
Final-year student Terence Lee, 24, who has been blogging about religion for the past two years, said it was the first time he had seen its rules.
"Requiring students to register with the university is ridiculous," he said. "I'm taking a module which requires students to blog about international affairs. Does this mean all of us have to register?"
On the other hand, third-year student Gillian Goh, who also said it was the first time she had seen the circular, felt the reminder was necessary even though some of her friends were "unhappy" about it.
"No matter what you post online, and no matter how you defend it or even retract it later, students have to take responsibility for what they say," she said.
Last week, a blogger posted about foreign students he accused of not contributing to group projects and, in some cases, copying the work of other students.
The anonymous author, who identified the students and posted their photos, has since removed the blog.
Two other universities here approach social media with a light touch.
"It, however, crosses the line when comments and remarks are untrue or inflammatory," a Singapore Management University spokesperson said.
The National University of Singapore "does not monitor students' postings in blogs and other online media", but a spokesperson said students are expected to abide by the university's Honour Code, "which includes not acting in a manner which is or may be detrimental to the reputation, dignity, interest, or welfare of the University".
SMU students, too, are bound by the university's Code of Conduct, whereby students are expected to refrain from hate speech or epithets - be it racial, ethnic, religious, sexual or political in nature - in any media or communication.
"In situations like these, we believe in education and dialogue, instead of authoritarian and punitive measures," its spokesperson said.
From Channel NewsAsia, "NTU's blogging rule raises eyebrows".

of PRs to be offered citizenship & if they refuse, their PR status won't be renewed
It's a tough measure alright. Desperate, some may say. And what will happen to those PRs who bought the HDB resale flats but refuse to take citizenship when approached? Will they lose their homes when their PR status later on will not be renewed?
What concerns me the most is even if they're willing to take citizenship, how patriotic will they be? Especially for those who do so because they feel compelled. They may feel that they have no choice. And that is sad, isn't it? To be a complaining citizen. The Singapore Government is moving to encourage more Permanent Residents in the country to take up citizenship.
Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong said some PRs will be approached to become citizens and if they don't do so, their status will not be renewed.
Immigration was one of many issues tackled during a dialogue session with over 200 residents from Marine Parade to gather feedback on the Prime Minister's National Day Rally.
SM Goh did not give details on getting PRs to take up citizenship.
"Moving forward, we are going to approach some of them to take up Singapore citizenship, if they don't then their PR will not be renewed. That's a better way.
"We now have quite a few PRs, 500,000 in Singapore, so hopefully maybe 50,000 can be selected to become Singapore citizens, the rest can be PRs, contributing to Singapore's economy," he said.
SM Goh was responding to a suggestion from a participant who said Employment Pass holders should take up citizenship which he believed will discourage foreign talents from working in Singapore.
Besides, SM Goh pointed out that Employment Pass holders serve as buffers where their numbers can be reduced during a downturn.
Another radical suggestion put forward was to bar foreigners from buying private property but SM Goh noted developers would just build more high-rise private apartments to counter it.
"At the moment, our policy will be, condominium, private sector. They want to buy, let them buy because they actually bring in money for Singapore. They may not actually stay there but they bring in money.
"They buy from locals, locals are happy to get the money but it's not actually adding to space. In fact, that's actually ideal. They buy here, they don't drive cars, they don't live here, we just get their money! They're buying air!" laughed SM Goh.
Separately, SM Goh revealed it will cost S$1 billion to upgrade the train signalling system to increase capacity and reduce the waiting time for commuters.
He said problems can be resolved rationally but noted that for every solution, there are consequences.
Citing overcrowding in trains, SM Goh said the problem is expected and can be addressed.
In this case, resources have to be put in place to upgrade the system.
The cost may not be passed down to commuters directly, but SM Goh pointed out that it has to be defrayed.
Similarly, there are consequences with measures introduced in the property sector.
SM Goh acknowledged the situation has resulted in many unhappy Singaporeans, and he sought to put things in perspective.
"Those who missed out, those who can't buy this, who can't upgrade and so on, so we are really feeling the unhappiness, question is was the policy good?
"Unhappiness, those who are happier, in total there's net happiness, there's no such thing called total happiness, don't believe in it. It's whether we create net happiness in all this," said SM Goh.
He added it is "very difficult to satisfy everybody" and in politics, trying to make everybody happy is "impossible".
They key, said SM Goh is to "make the most number of people happy, the most number of times".
Another idea worth considering in managing transport woes is to have a "zero vehicular traffic growth".
"Let the COE take care of the number for cars on the road so when the number of cars cannot grow when the COE is so high then the roads will be freer so it's a combination of high COEs and low ERP.
"But we have opted in the last 10 years or so to give Singaporeans the 4 wheels so we have opted for 3 per cent growth in vehicle population and therefore use ERP to tweak it because one can argue that's fairer." he said.
The question is to decide which is the best way forward, said the Senior Minister.
He also answered questions on why the S$9,000 award to recognise the contributions of NSmen is not extended to all who have served the country.
SM Goh said authorities can consider giving older Singaporeans a token for their contributions.
"I think the old days, the financial sacrifices were much more because you were paid just a nominal sum but there were other benefits. If you were born earlier, maybe you bought your HDB flat cheaper! So you cannot argue.
"Your point is whether we can recognise in some way, token well I think we take note so that in future, they can remember the older ones, just a token, maybe past 55, help them with their medical top ups, I think that's possible. It's a suggestion we will take note."
SM Goh was relaxed and candid in his answers. At several points, he threw questions back, seeking a consensus on issues.
His message - that Singapore's problems can be resolved rationally, no matter how complex, with a good dose of the Singapore Spirit.
From Channel NewsAsia, "Government encourages more Singapore PRs to take up citizenship".Getting Permanent Residents (PRs) to take up Singapore citizenship stems from a wider attempt at integration, said observers reacting to Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong's remark.
Mr Goh had said during a National Day Rally feedback session that some of the 500,000 PRs will be asked to take up citizenship. If they don't, their PR status will not be renewed.
The authorities have yet to disclose details of the latest government initiative at assimilation. But observers said any new policy will likely target those who have been here for three to five years, and who have enjoyed the benefits of their PR status.
Dr Leong Chan Hoong, Research Fellow at Institute of Policy Studies, said: "The policy makers would have a better chance if they target PRs who have stayed here for a certain period of time and who have benefited from our social policies.
"For example, they have purchased a subsidised flat under the old HDB housing estate schemes, or they may have children who have gone through the local education system and getting some form of educational subsidies or medical health care benefits.
"Essentially, people who have been in our system for quite a number of years and become very localised."
Dr Leong added that those impacted may be Employment Pass holders who may now think twice about applying for PR status, simply because it may have an impact on their citizenship in the long term.
While it may seem like a tough stand, observers said it is the government's way to assure Singaporeans over the growing number of foreigners. But they added that a sharper distinction must be made between PRs and citizens.
Eugene Tan, Assistant Professor at the Singapore Management University's School of Law, said: "It depends on what they see, what are the benefits that could come out of becoming a Singapore citizen. I think as the differentiation between Singaporeans and Permanent Residents becomes sharper, we could see more PRs converting to citizens.
"But until that distinction is a lot sharper, many PRs may feel that there are no plus sides to becoming citizens. In fact, for many Permanent Residents, having citizenship in another country and a Singapore Permanent Residence is actually a very good combination for them. In that sense, there is no push factor for them to convert and at the same time there is no pull factor for them to convert from Permanent Resident to citizen.
"This is where the policy's challenge lies. Simply, for a long time the differentiation between a citizen and PR hasn't been very sharp. In recent years we see that distinction becoming sharper but for Singapore we are limited by the fact that we still need new immigrants.
"So if we have a policy in which we compel, so to speak, PRs, to covert to become citizens, that in itself could be a push factor. I think one pull factor would be to show that it makes both pecuniary and non-pecuniary sense for a PR to covert to citizenship. The idea here is: how can we make Singapore citizenship something that is attractive?"
From Channel NewsAsia, "Getting PRs to become citizens a wider integration attempt: observers".
coop - ping cheat???
So what makes me say the fact that coop is the latest ping cheat?
See the screenshot above, there were 3 pongs, yet only 1 read? (At the very least the no of reads should be equal to the no of pongs, stoopid cheat!).

Glamorous Sky - the cool ending song of NANA
I just love library@esplanade. There are a lot of foreign films collection & I managed to get this Japanese movie, "NANA". (I vaguely remember it's adapted from a manga which the style of drawing I dislike.)
The plot is simple, but heartwarming. The ending song titled "Glamorous Sky", though, is a BLAST!!
Check out the YouTube clip, "Glamorous Sky" here & the lyric translated in English here.

Ben & Jerry's Chunkfest 2010: Photos Galore
To follow up this post, "Chunkfest 2010 by Ben & Jerry's at Promontory@Marina Bay", I managed to visit the event today. Here are some of the exclusive photos:
2. Another photo taken before the Chunkfest started. A classic packaging of the Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
3. After a walk to the nearby "The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands", I went back to Promontory@Marina Bay. The queue was terribly long & slow at the Redemption & Registration Booth & I couldn't resist not to take the photo of the fierce bouncer in brown.
4. The hosts of the even were the energetic duo of Class 95 Cartunes Jean Danker & Tim Oh. You can check their other photo here posing with the cow shown in no.2 above.
5. Everytime you bought a scoop of ice cream (there're 12 unique flavours just for this year Chunkfest), you'll be given "1 moolah". Collect 5 & you can redeem a mug. Innovative, but sorry, not for me. Refer to no.3 for why.
6. There were 3 booths selling the ice creams. Here is one of them.
7. And here are the photo of the 12 exclusive flavors of the ice cream. Vote for your favorite here; the flavor with the highest votes gets to stay!
8. Another booth which sold the ice creams showing the theme of this year's Chunkfest: Peace, Love & Ice Cream.
9. The third booth which sold the ice cream. Yes, they're all popular!
10. The first game conducted was "Tug of Peace". Instead of out-pulling, teams will have to out-push one another to win! The second game of "Tug of Peace" involved female contestants. Too violent, the photo was too shaky. Heh.
11. Even this tough dog likes his Ben & Jerry's. Protective to his lady owner too. Good dog!!
12. There was this other booth which offered a reading of your fortune. Only cost you 1 moolah. Then again, the queue was long & slow...
13. ...so the best thing I could do was to snap a shot of the tarot reader & his wonderful cards. Nice artwork. Sigh.
14. There would be 6 bands performing. But I didn't manage to catch any of them. Left the place at about 1600 hrs. My loss.
15. Besides booths selling ice cream, there was one selling F&B. You bet why I took this one. Cool colorful shirts, weren't they?
16. These two babes really did read the Chunkfest 2010 website. Come as a hippie, it said. I have no idea that a hippie was barefooted, though.
17. Have I told you the theme of Chunkfest 2010 is "Peace, Love & Ice Cream"? This kind of signboard would be seen in the vicinity.
18. Oh, and there was this little Ben & Jerry's bus. No doubt for the organizers to escape if a riot were to happen due to insufficient ice creams. Hur hur.

Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D - please make it 2D for me...
Resident Evil: Afterlife (original poster + glow)
Resident Evil: Afterlife (original poster + radial blur)I am not looking forward to "Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D". It's the 2D-version which is good enough for me. I don't want the repeat of headache like that after watching the 3D version of The Clash of The Titans.
