Blog Day 31/08 and the 6 Recommended Blogs

This post is my entry for "Nuffnang Celebrates BlogDay!".

In case you wonder (to quote from Nuffnang): "Blog Day was created with the belief that bloggers should have one day dedicated to getting to know other bloggers from other countries and areas of interest."

Here are the 6 recommended blogs I choose to be featured for the Blog Day today:

1) Elizabeth May Photography
Astonishing shots. Even if some of them were taken by disposable cameras!

2) INCIDENTAL COMICS
Charming. Simple, but with a lot of details.

3) Guide Puppy Dog
A dog is really a man's best friend. Or in this case, a blogger's.

4) I found your pen
Highly original. Unusual, albeit somewhat a senseless quest? (Kind of remind me to my old rather dying site of "Because the moon already does another's...". Sigh.)

5) Calling People Names
Mostly words. Mostly captivating words. You'll be hooked once if you give this wordy blog a chance.

6) Old Picture of the Day
A historical photograph every day? Surprisingly not a bore. Heh.

Give this Green Light Movement a red light!!

Simply because no one likes to be cheated!! I'm referring to this previous post, "Thy-Dowager & how a celebrity blogger is first and foremost a human too, and thus entitled for a catfight once a while..." and how it's actually revealed in "Blogger Peggy Heng's Scandal Catfight" that the catfight was just a fake. Nothing more to promote the so-called Green Light Movement.

Totally disgusted.

You want publicity? You've got one more from this humble blog of mine.

Congratulations!!

t.A.T.u.: Ya Soshla S Uma - All The Things She Said - We Are Lesbians (No, they are NOT!)

t.A.T.u. What a great music! What a great video music (just check out the latest one uploaded on Dec 2009!). And yeah, forget about the parody version of the song titled, "We Are Lesbians". (For a record, Anatomy of t.A.T.u. aired on Russian television on 12 December 2003. The documentary revealed that the girls were not lesbians! Source Wikipedia)

So don't get misled by their kissing scenes on stage, peeps!

Personally I find the Russian version of the song "All The Things She Said" is much more appealing. Heh. It's by the way their debut single released in Dec 2000.

It is a pity that the group has been disbanded in March this year.

Barack Obama Sings the Pokemon Theme Song

Haha. Hilarious. The above YouTube clip was uploaded by phoenixbluex and described as "On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama became America's first Pokemon Master. This is his acceptance speech."

The theme song is actually the first Pokemon theme song.

For comparison, here's the clip:

Horrible Bosses - Drag Racing in a Prius

As mentioned in the previous post on "Horrible Bosses", this part about drag racing in a Prius is one of my favorite scenes. LOL.

"Can you explain why you were doing a 61 in a 25 zone?"

ZOOM TO THE 'EVIDENCE'

"I was drag racing"

"In a Prius?!"

"...I don't win alot"

And if you're looking for the Best "Horrible Bosses" quotes. Do check out this International Business Times page. Heh. I love the part about drag racing in a Prius. And the part about 'Gam-Gam'. LOL.

Oh, and have I mentioned how much I like the 'simple' posters of the movie? From various sources in the Net:

Funny subtitles: V for Vendetta, Le Papillon, Pirates of Carribean 2 & 3

Heh. Wish I can find more YouTube clips with funny subtitles. Any recommendations? Preferably foreign movies or even, animes. Grin.

V for Vendetta - Funny Subtitles

Le Papillon - Funny Subtitles

Pirates Of The Caribbean 2 - Funny Subtitles

Pirates Parody (german with subtitles)

Patricia Mok says this year NDP is lousy & prefers watching "On the Fringe" 20 times...

What interests me is whether Patricia Mok is going to apologize for her (equally insensitive, I'd opine) remarks on this year NDP. The harsh keywords using were 'stupid', 'lousy', 'waste of time'.

Funny, those are exactly the keywords of how some of us will describe her TV shows. And yeah, in all honesty, watching 'LOST' 20 times is even better than watching whatever stupid-lousy-and waste-of-time her TV shows...whatever they are!

But seriously, though, what is this "On the Fringe" anyway which she quoted?

Is it this one?

On The Fringe 2 Episode 2 Part 1 《边缘父子》Bian Yuan Fu Zi

Or this one?

Fringe Trailer 1

To think I was once impressed at how she donated the money she won in the molest case last year.

'Stupid', 'lousy', 'waste of time', local television celebrity Patricia Mok wrote online, slamming this year's National Day Parade. STOMPer tony was enraged after reading her comments.

First she pointed out in English that this year's Parade had two main stars, and even used 'stupid until...' in her description. Patricia also said she preferred Kit Chan's 'Home' to this year's 'In A Heartbeat'.

Then, she wrote in Chinese: "Wasted one-and-a-half hours of my time watching the National Day Parade! In all history...lousy! In all honesty, watching 'On the Fringe' 20 times is even better than watching tonight's Parade!"

When interviewed, Patricia expressed it was her personal opinion, and perhaps the 'new elements' did not appeal to a 'traditional' viewer like her as she felt it had lost its 'original flavour'. The celebrity also was not able to view the flypast from her house this year.

"Last night (Aug 9), compared to previous shows, I did not see anything familiar when I watched the Parade on television. Perhaps I'm more traditional, old-fashioned," she said, adding that the music did not resonate with the audience. She also said some scenes were difficult to understand and "the whole musical was very flat".

She would also have been very disappointed if she had a child performing in this year's Parade: "On television, I couldn't see any child's face amongst the performers, perhaps due to the angle," she said.

Finally, she felt the performance this year weakened television viewers' excitement. "Last time, at the end of the Parade, I would feel very excited. However, this year my family was very quiet, compared to previous years where we would all discuss the show excitedly afterwards."

Said the STOMPer:

"Patricia Mok criticised the NDP.

"As a Singaporean who does she think she is to say this year's NDP is stupid and a waste of time?

"Singaporeans agree?"

From STOMP, "TV celeb Patricia Mok slams NDP as 'stupid' and 'waste of time'".

MediaCorp actress Patricia Mok has donated to charity S$10,000 paid to her by her alleged molestor.

Ms Mok agreed to compound two outrage of modesty cases with 30—year—old Yeoh Chuen How Monday.

Mr Yeoh was charged with molesting her on June 22 last year at Zirca Mega Club in Clarke Quay.

He was accused of touching Ms Mok’s left shoulder and groping her forearm 15 minutes later.

He gave Ms Mok S$10,000 in compensation.

She has donated the cash to two charities — the HCA Hospice Care and Rainbow Centre Yishun Park School, a school for the mentally disabled.

Each received S$5,000.

Mr Yeoh also apologised to Ms Mok in open court and was granted a discharge by the district judge.

From XinMSN News, "Patricia Mok donates money from molest case to charity". (23/08/10)

Real Apes and Rise of the Apes Mashup

Heh. This mashup is real interesting! Making use of 'real apes' instead of just with other movies. I just love mashups! Hur hur.

Beauty ... and the Brain (Or how I wish I understand Vietnamese)

Yeah. I believe it's Vietnamese language this curious advert is using. Heh.

I have no idea what is this 'Kiem Tra Ngay' refers to. A name? A further google on these words lead to this image:

Any readers care to translate in English what the whole text is about? For both the pictures, I mean. Really curious about them.

Revealed: A hidden poem of the National Day theme songs from 1998 to 2011

Firstly, sorry for the difficult font of the previous post, "National Day Parade theme songs from 1998 to 2011!! (And 5 interesting trivia which are not trivial!!)". I'm back to use the classic Arial again.

Not that it's going to interest you, but I'm sure the following poem weaved together from a line each of every National Day theme songs of Singapore from 1998 to this year may nudge your sense of creativity & lead you to compile your own poems from the fantastic song.

This is my version:

When there are troubles to go through,

Let us find in our strides

Let our hopes lead us afar!

And no matter where I am, I will always know

The life that we knew had to change.

It doesn't matter how tough it may be,

Together hand in hand

We'll find a way to start anew.

The time has come for me.

This is my future,

Amazing in all ways!

Yet I still don't know why

That every vision begins with you.

See the moon and the stars,

Sometimes the best things are taken for granted?

In a heartbeat, we will reach the sky!

And these are the screenshots of the National Day theme songs of which each line forms the above verses:

National Day Parade theme songs from 1998 to 2011!! (And 5 interesting trivia which are not trivial!!)

Yes, for a change. I'd not use the usual 'Arial' font, but 'Times'...because it's now 'time' to say "Have a great National Day, Singapore!!". And that now is the right 'time' to revisit those enchanting National Day theme songs.

Some trivia:
1. The tradition of having a National Day theme song was started in 1998 with the unforgettable song, "Home" by Kit Chan. (This song was 'recycled' as 2004 National Day theme song beautifully performed by Young Voices. Also equally impressive, the song is lampooned this year as "Another Home" by Chua Enlai--no, for sure not used as the theme song, nevertheless it's a great clip really!!)

2. Stefanie Sun sang the official theme songs for Singapore's National Day Parade: "We Will Get There" (2002) and "One United People" (2003).

3. In 2003, a significant split took place when the National Day theme song of that year was not the Sing Singapore theme song. Stefanie Sun's "One United People" was used as the NDP theme song to better suit the theme of "A Cohesive Society" while Sean Wang's "A Place in My Heart" was chosen to lead the Sing Singapore 2003 Festival.

4. The year 2007 marked for the first time in NDP history there were two official theme songs instead of one. The first theme song was "There's No Place I'd Rather Be" performed by Kit Chan. The other song, "Will You", was performed by eight local singers of different music genres: Janani Sridhar, Asha Edmund, Emma Yong, Lily Anna Rahmat, Jai Wahab, Shabir Mohammaed, Sebastian Tan and Gani Karim.

5. In 2008, the National Day theme song was performed in English and Mandarin by Hady Mirza and Joi Chua respectively...and separately (they're two songs is what I mean!)

Enough of the trivia, here are the National Day theme songs from 1998 to this year! Love them all, even the one in 2009, "What Do You See" by Electrico--although it's mercilessly parodied as "Le Kua Simi". Heh.

The following songs & the quoted are from YouTube:

Stringing the acts together are several main characters and various renditions of this year's theme song "In a Heartbeat". The show tells the story of Singapore from the perspective of a family, centre-ing on two main characters- Mother and Son, whose story brings out different elements of the Singapore Spirit, with Singapore's history as the backdrop.

Lyrics:
Will you make this island
Amazing in all ways?
Surprises every corner,
Delightful nights and days.

Will you take this country
And turn it from a place
To a home that greets you
With smiles on every face?

Will you come on this brave journey?
Will you help to make it real?
Will you write us grand new stories,
Songs that everyone will feel?

So... Will you swim the current?
Will you scale new heights?
Will you make it happen,
Will you let your dreams take flight?
And... Will you make the difference?
Will you seize the day?
Will you live each moment,
Will you dare to find new ways?

Will you take this city
And turn it into a place
To a home that greets you
With smiles on every face

Will you come on this brave journey?
Will you help to make it real?
Will you write us grand new stories,
Songs that everyone will feel?

So... Will you swim the current?
Will you scale new heights?
Will you make it happen,
Will you let your dreams take flight?
And... Will you make the difference?

Another Home (The 'Other' National Day Video): featuring Ulu Pandan Bear or Pedobear?

LOL. So have you been dazzled by Chua Enlai in the 'other' National Day video titled, "Another Home"? It was uploaded last month (28 July, to be precise) and as per today 2350 hrs, the hilarious clip has gathered 62,768 views!

Tongue-in-cheek Chua Enlai

What puzzles me is the appearance of the bear! What does it refer to? Is it about the legend (hoax) of Ulu Pandan Bear? (Refer to Channel NewsAsia, "'Bear sighting' publicity stunt now a public nuisance case".)

Surely it can't refer to Pedobear?! I fail to see how it's relevant, if it's indeed meant as Pedobear. Hur hur.
